About Rutland Choral Society
Rutland Choral Society has been going for over 50 years!
Rutland Choral Society has been inspiring audiences and bringing singers together for over 50 years.
We welcome anyone who loves to sing and values the many benefits of being part of a choir. Singing is a wonderful way to build friendships, boost wellbeing, and create a real sense of belonging. Whether in rehearsal or performance, the shared achievement of making music together is truly uplifting — both physically and mentally.
We are led by our talented Musical Director, Jamie Conway, and accompanied by Ivan Linford (see their biographies). Under their expert guidance, we continue to grow musically and ambitiously. We are also proud to have performed alongside distinguished professional musicians at our concerts, and we have even premiered a specially commissioned work.
Above all, we are a friendly and sociable group. Our concerts are followed by lively celebrations with choir members, friends and audience alike. We mark the New Year with a popular choir dinner, and in the summer we host a relaxed social evening where members can share their talents — from singing and poetry to party pieces of all kinds. It’s always a highlight of the year.
We typically perform three concerts annually — in Spring, Summer and at Christmas. The Spring concert often features a full choral work, while the Summer programme is lighter and more varied. Our Christmas concert, with carols and seasonal favourites, is always a much-loved occasion. We also perform at special events, including charity concerts and weddings.
Over the years, we have sung with orchestras and jazz bands, and we have had the honour of performing at prestigious events — including services at Peterborough Cathedral, Southwell Minster at the invitation of the High Sheriff of Rutland.
Whether you are an experienced singer or returning after a break, you will find your confidence and musical skills growing with every rehearsal — all while making lasting friendships.
As one member says:
“There can’t be many choirs as inclusive, welcoming and fun as RCS — we really are one big family.”
